# Pontoon Re-Carpeting & Refurbishment

## Pontoon Re-Carpeting and Refurbishment at Wallaroo Marina

Pontoons take a constant battering from sun, water and foot traffic, and it shows over time in worn carpet, tired ply and general wear. Working from Wallaroo Marina, Sawley's Auto and Marine repairs and refurbishes pontoons, from re-carpeting through to complete rebuilds, using the same slipway we use for [large vessel retrieval and maintenance](https://www.sawleysautoandmarine.com.au/pages/large-vessel-retrieval-maintenance). Left unattended, worn decking can also become a safety hazard for anyone walking on or off the pontoon.

### What's Involved

- Assessing the condition of the existing pontoon structure and decking
- Stripping back worn or damaged carpet and ply
- Replacing existing ply decking with aluminium where a more durable, longer-term option is wanted
- Re-[carpeting](https://www.sawleysautoandmarine.com.au/collections/marine-carpet-boat-flooring-marine-carpeting-solutions) the pontoon surface
- [Rebuilding sections](https://www.sawleysautoandmarine.com.au/collections/hull-deck-hardware-marine-fittings-rails-accessories) of the pontoon structure where needed

### Ply or Aluminium

Timber ply decking is a common original fit-out for pontoons but breaks down over time with constant water exposure. Replacing worn ply with aluminium is a popular option for pontoon owners after a more durable surface that holds up better to the marine environment long-term.

### Where We Work

Pontoon work is carried out at Wallaroo Marina.

### Signs It's Time for a Refurbishment

Soft or spongy decking, carpet that's worn through or lifting, and visible rot or corrosion in the structure are all signs a pontoon needs attention. Addressing it before the structure itself is compromised keeps the job to a re-carpet or partial rebuild rather than something more extensive.

### What to Expect

We'll assess the pontoon on site or once it's accessible, and talk you through whether re-carpeting alone will do the job or whether the underlying structure needs attention as well, before any work goes ahead. Aluminium decking also tends to hold up better under constant foot traffic and exposure to the elements.
