A genuine BRP reverse gear for selected Evinrude and Johnson V4 lower units using the 4.75-inch gearcase family.

  

The gear rotates freely on the propeller shaft until the sliding clutch dog engages its machined engagement lugs. Once engaged, engine torque is transferred through the reverse gear to rotate the propeller shaft in reverse.

🔌 Function

  

The reverse gear meshes continuously with the pinion gear. When the clutch dog moves rearward, its engagement faces lock into the reverse gear and drive the propeller shaft in reverse.

  

Common signs of failure:

  

• Outboard jumps out of reverse under load

• Grinding or ratcheting occurs when reverse is selected

• Reverse engagement lugs are rounded or chipped

• Gear teeth show pitting, spalling or impact damage

• Metal particles appear in the lower-unit lubricant

• Reverse gear has excessive movement on the propeller shaft
