# 11030522 Sump | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

## 🔧 Product Description

This is the engine oil sump for Volvo Penta's TD/TID 61 and 71 series marine and industrial diesel engines, part of the engine block system group. It is the M24 configuration, which identifies the drain thread size and separates it from the earlier 7/8" version it replaces. Supplied as the sump casting alone, it bolts to the underside of the cylinder block to form the engine's oil reservoir.

## 🔌 Function

The sump forms the sealed reservoir at the base of the engine that collects and holds the lubricating oil returning from the engine's internal components. It provides the pickup volume for the oil pump and the drain point for oil changes.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

-   Oil weeping or dripping from the sump flange or seam
-   Corrosion, pitting or perforation of the sump body causing oil loss
-   Damage or distortion from grounding, impact or overtightening of mounting bolts
-   Stripped, cross-threaded or leaking drain plug threads
-   Low oil level or pressure warnings traced to external sump leakage

## 🛠️ Service Notes

-   Drain the oil warm and completely, and make sure the engine is properly supported before anything holding the sump is disturbed
-   Clean both flange faces without scoring them and without dropping debris inside, removing every trace of old gasket or sealant
-   Use the gasket or sealing compound the workshop manual for your engine specifies, applied dry where it says dry, and locate the sump correctly against its end faces before pulling anything down
-   Tighten progressively from the centre outwards in stages to the manual figures; a sump flange is easy to pull out of shape and then it leaks for good
-   Fit a new drain plug seal, refill with the correct grade to the correct level, then run and check for leaks and for oil pressure coming up as it should
