-   Fit a new O-ring or seal, lightly lubricated, and take care not to knock the tip against the flywheel or gear teeth as it goes in
-   Where the sensor sets its own gap do not force it home; where the gap is adjustable, set it with the correct tool to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine
-   Check the target teeth for damage, and the harness, screening and connector for corroded pins or chafing, before blaming the sensor
-   Tighten the fixing to the specified figure, route and clip the lead as it was, and clear any stored fault codes before test running
