# 1629499 V-Clamp | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

## 🔧 Product Description

This is a genuine Volvo Penta V-clamp from the inlet and exhaust system group, used to join and seal ducting or turbocharger connections on TAD and TWD series industrial and genset diesel engines. The band-style clamp draws the mating flanges together to hold a gas-tight joint under pressure and vibration. Supplied as an individual clamp with a net weight of 0.28 kg.

## ⚙️ Key Features

- Genuine Volvo Penta OEM part number 1629499
- System group: Inlet and Exhaust System
- V-clamp (band-type) design for flanged inlet/exhaust joints
- Net weight 0.28 kg
- Fits TAD and TWD series industrial and generator-set diesel engines
- Engine type: Application dependent
- Quantity varies by assembly, most commonly four

## 🔌 Function

The V-clamp secures two flanged connections in the air intake or exhaust path, clamping them evenly around the joint circumference. This maintains a gas-tight, vibration-resistant seal so charge air and exhaust gas stay within the ducting.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

- Audible air or exhaust leak, whistling or hissing at the joint
- Loss of boost pressure or reduced engine power
- Corrosion, pitting or cracking of the clamp band
- Seized, stretched or stripped tensioning bolt and nut that will not hold torque
- Visible movement or separation of the clamped flanges, or soot staining around the joint

## 🛠️ Service Notes

- Bring the two flanges squarely together before the clamp goes on — a V-clamp centres and holds a joint but cannot pull a misaligned pipe into line
- Seat the clamp evenly round the flanges and nip it up lightly, then tap around the circumference with a soft mallet so the band settles and the flanges centre before final tightening
- Tighten in stages to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine and no further; the clamp is meant to pinch the flanges while still allowing for expansion and vibration, and overtightening distorts the band or the flanges
- Renew the clamp if the band is stretched, cracked or corroded, or if the bolt, nut or trunnion is damaged — a fatigued clamp can let the joint go completely
- Recheck the clamp after the first run up to working temperature, and again at the next service
