-   With the cover fitted, check clearance to moving parts, belts and hot surfaces all the way round, and turn the engine over by hand where anything is close
-   Renew rather than repair a cover that is cracked, deformed or has been previously patched, and do not modify or drill it to clear a component
-   Take the chance while it is off to inspect what it covers for chafe marks, heat damage and rubbing, and correct the cause before the cover goes back on
