-   Support the pipe with its original clips and keep it clear of hot surfaces and moving parts; a chafed or melted breather puts oil mist into the engine space
-   Make sure both connections are clean, sealed and clamped — a leaking breather makes an oily mess and upsets crankcase pressure
-   Clean out the breather housing, hose stub or oil separator while the pipe is off; blocked crankcase ventilation pressurises the crankcase and pushes oil past seals and the dipstick
-   Check the joints again after the first run at temperature, when the pipe is soft and connections can settle
