-   Fit without preload or side strain, as a linkage forced into place will bind and wear its joints quickly, and secure every clip, pin and locknut
-   Set the adjustment so the control reaches both of its stops with the correct free travel, following the adjustment procedure in the workshop manual for your engine, and check operation through the full range before running
-   Lubricate the joints as specified and check the linkage for free, full movement at routine services
