-   Inspect the tensioner and every pulley face while the belt is off; a rough bearing, a rusty tensioner arm or a scored pulley will destroy a new belt
-   Note the routing before removal, then turn the engine over by hand once the new belt is on and re-check the run and tension following the procedure for your engine
-   Keep oil, fuel and coolant off the belt, and renew a contaminated belt rather than trying to clean it
