-   Renew self-locking nuts, lock washers, tab washers or thread-locking compound wherever the original assembly used them, and tighten to the figure given in the workshop manual for your engine
-   Where the bracket carries a rubber mount or bush, renew that at the same time rather than reusing a perished one
-   On brackets in the inlet and exhaust area, never force alignment to make the holes line up — cure the misalignment at its source, or the bracket and the component it holds will both crack
