## 🔌 Function

Clamps a cooling-system component to the engine, the flange head spreading the load so the joint holds without a washer.

-   Coolant weeping from the joint the screw clamps

## 🛠️ Service Notes

-   The integral flange spreads the load and forms the bearing face, so do not add a separate washer unless the workshop manual for your engine specifically calls for one
-   Clean the threads and the seating face before fitting — grit, paint or old sealant under the flange gives a false torque reading and the joint will slacken off in service
-   Where the flange is serrated it must bear directly on clean metal to grip; discard any screw with a deformed flange or damaged serrations rather than reusing it
-   Tighten to the torque and sequence given in the workshop manual for your engine, and treat the screw as single-use where the manual specifies an angle-tightened or stretch fastener
-   Check the thread in the receiving component at the same time; a pulled or corroded thread will not hold a new screw however carefully it is torqued
