## 🔌 Function

The gasket and O-rings seal the stationary joints between saildrive housings, preventing gear-oil loss and seawater entry.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

-   Gear oil or seawater leaks at a housing joint
-   Saildrive housing has been separated
-   Diaphragm service requires drive removal
-   O-rings are flattened or cut
-   Gasket is torn during disassembly

## 🛠️ Service Notes

-   Use every ring the kit supplies and replace them all in one go; leaving one original ring in place is the usual reason a rebuilt unit leaks again
-   Lay the kit out against the parts you remove so each ring goes to the right joint, as kits often contain rings of very similar size
-   Clean each groove and seat and check it for scoring, corrosion and old sealant before the new ring goes in
-   Ease each ring into place without stretching, twisting or dragging it over sharp edges or threads, and check it is seated squarely before closing the joint
-   Add no sealant unless the workshop manual for your engine calls for it, and tighten the joints to the figures in that manual
