-   Check that the standoffs, spacers, clips and fasteners go back with the panel; the air gap they hold is what does the insulating, so a panel clamped flat to the manifold is not doing its job
-   Renew insulation that is charred, crushed, torn, delaminated or has been soaked with oil or fuel — once contaminated it cannot be cleaned and it becomes the ignition source it was fitted to prevent
-   Find and fix the leak first if the old insulation was oil-soaked or fuel-soaked; a new panel fitted over a live leak will be ruined again
-   Check clearance to hoses, cables and the wiring loom once refitted, and make sure nothing can chafe against the shield edge with engine movement
