-   Tighten to seal, not to crush — an over-tightened worm-drive clamp cuts into soft hose and starts the leak you were trying to stop
-   Renew clamps when a hose is changed rather than reusing them, and keep band, housing and screw all marine-grade stainless so the clamp does not corrode against itself
-   Where two clamps are fitted to one connection, stagger the screw heads and recheck both after the first running period
