12-volt 20/30-amp switching relay used in starter, glow-plug, stop-solenoid, emergency-stop and EVC control circuits across a wide set of Volvo Penta diesel engines. It allows a low-current control signal to operate a higher-current circuit and replaces several earlier Volvo Penta relay references.

## 🔌 Function

Uses a low-current command from the key switch, EVC module or control circuit to switch the higher current required by the starter solenoid, glow circuit, stop device or emergency-stop circuit.

-   Clicking relay with no operation of the controlled component
-   Intermittent starting, stopping or glow-plug operation
-   Burnt, loose or corroded relay terminals
-   Relay overheating or welded contacts
-   Correct control voltage present but no switched output at the load terminal

## 🛠️ Service Notes

-   Isolate the batteries before removing or fitting a relay, and note the connections as they come off
-   Fit like for like — coil voltage, contact rating, pin layout and any diode or resistor built across the coil must match the original, since a relay that plugs in is not necessarily the correct one
-   Check the base, socket and terminals for corrosion, spread or burnt contacts and confirm the supply and earth paths before condemning a relay; damp connections and poor earths cause more of these faults than the contacts themselves
-   Mount the relay in its original clip or holder so it stays secure and as dry as possible — vibration and moisture are the usual killers in a marine installation
-   On petrol installations, only ignition-protected electrical devices should be fitted in the engine space or fuel tank compartment, so use parts approved for that use
