-   Do not lever or hammer on the pulley or the impeller housing to seat the pump, and check the shaft turns freely by hand once it is bolted up
-   Set drive belt tension and check pulley alignment by the procedure for your engine — over-tensioning will wreck the bearing in a new pump
-   Refill with coolant of the correct specification and mixture, vent the system fully, then run up and check both for leaks and for a normal temperature rise and fall
