-   Fit new seals and O-rings, and lubricate the bearing and seal lips with the grease or oil specified in the workshop manual for your engine before closing up
-   Follow the manual's shimming, endfloat and preload procedure for the assembly rather than judging it by feel
-   Turn the assembly by hand before it goes back into service; it should rotate smoothly with no roughness, tight spots or unexpected play
