# 21883677 Cap | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

## 🔧 Product Description

A genuine lightweight service cap used in the upper-engine or valve-cover arrangement on selected Volvo Penta V8 petrol engines.

## 🚤 Compatibility

- **HP Range:** Approximately 350-380 HP
- **Year Range:** Approximately 2013 - 2020

## ⚙️ Key Features

- Service cap for the upper-engine or valve-cover arrangement on selected V8 petrol engines
- 0.039 kg
- Closes off its opening and keeps dirt out of the assembly behind it

## 🔌 Function

Closes a service or access opening in the upper-engine assembly, sealing it against oil escaping and dirt getting in between services.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

- Oil weeping or misting from around the cap
- Cap loose, or found sitting proud of its seat
- Seal or sealing face hardened, cracked or distorted on removal
- Oil film and dust collected on the surface below the cap
- Cap cracked or its retaining feature broken

## 🛠️ Service Notes

- Clean and inspect the seating face on the housing as well as the cap — most leaks past a cap are the seat or the seal rather than the cap body
- Renew any separate O-ring or gasket that goes with the cap, and lubricate rubber seals lightly with clean oil or grease so they slide home instead of rolling or tearing
- Do not over-tighten a cap into a plastic or aluminium housing; it seals on its gasket or O-ring, not on force, and stripped threads mean a much bigger repair
- Where a cap blanks a port during a repair, keep it fitted right up to the moment of assembly so nothing enters the opening
- Check the cap is fully home and that any retaining clip, lanyard or locking tab is secure before returning the boat to service
