## 🛠️ Service Notes

-   Clean the housing bore and the shaft, and check the shaft for a wear groove where the old seal ran — a new seal on a grooved shaft will leak again
-   Fit the seal with the lip and its garter spring facing the fluid being retained, normally inward towards the oil, and to the depth specified for that housing
-   Press the seal in square using a driver or plate that bears on the seal's outer face and never on the lip; a cocked or dished seal will leak from new
-   Lightly oil or grease the lip and the shaft before assembly unless the manual specifically calls for a dry fit, and protect the lip with tape or oiled paper when passing it over splines, keyways or threads
-   Check the garter spring is still seated in its groove after fitting, then turn the assembly by hand before running it up
