Type J is a completely modern aluminium Duoprop range designed for the classic Volvo Penta 280, 290 and DP Aquamatic sterndrives. The patented blade geometry and large propeller diameter provide optimal efficiency as well as quiet and smooth operation, and a special high-strength aluminium alloy with a squeeze casting process makes the propellers stronger and more durable than traditional die-cast propellers. Four layers of paint ensure excellent corrosion protection performance. This number supplies the complete J3 pair, front propeller 21924223 and rear propeller 21924243. Every set of Duoprop propellers is designed, tested and manufactured together, so the front and rear propellers of a dimension belong to each other.

## 🔌 Function

Supplies both counter-rotating propellers of a Duoprop drive as one matched pair, so front and rear stay at the same dimension and the torque split between them remains the one the drive was designed around.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

-   Vibration through the hull that worsens with speed
-   Blade edges chipped, bent or eroded on either propeller
-   Loss of top speed, or slow to plane, at the same engine rpm
-   Engine over-revving under load, pointing to a slipped hub
-   Pitting or corrosion across the blade faces

## 🛠️ Service Notes

-   Order by the J number: the published kit weight is not the sum of its two propellers (7.62 kg for the kit against 4.74 kg and 4.354 kg for front 21924223 and rear 21924243), and four of the kits here are published at the same 7.257 kg
-   Volvo Penta's instruction for these drives is to fit stainless Type C propellers instead on six-cylinder diesel engines, on engines over 240 hp, and on boats capable of more than 38 knots (45 mph)
-   Do not mix Type A, Type B and Type J propellers on a drive, and use propellers of the same type and size on the drive - or on both drives in a twin installation; Type J is the modern aluminium replacement covering both Type A and Type B sizes, but the sizes do not transfer directly - an A5 is not a J5 - so size an upgrade with your dealer, giving maximum boat speed and engine rpm
-   Always use type C stainless steel propellers in 6-cylinder diesel engines or engines exceeding 240 hp or capable of speeds above 38 knots (45 mph).
-   Type J sizes are not equally transferred from Type A or Type B sizes - an A5 propeller does not correspond to a J5 propeller. Consult a Volvo Penta dealer for the right size, providing the maximum boat speed and engine rpm if possible.
-   Do not mix Type A, B and J propellers. Always use propellers of the same type and size on the drive, or on both drives in twin installations.
-   Installation hardware, types A, B, C and J: propeller cone kit M16 872614 or M20 872549, propeller nut 3851334, thrust rings 3858458 and 3858457.
