# 22181757 Lock Washer | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

## 🔧 Product Description

Hardened axial locking washer used to retain a shaft, gear, bearing or rotating component in its specified position. Its tab, tang or locking profile is matched to the associated nut and shaft feature.

## ⚙️ Key Features

- Hardened spring/locking material
- Application-specific tab or tang geometry
- Prevents loosening under rotation and vibration
- Maintains axial retention of the serviced component
- Single-use replacement is recommended after tabs are bent or disturbed

## 🔌 Function

Mechanically locks the associated nut or shaft component against rotation and axial loosening.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

- Broken or flattened locking tab
- Nut movement or loss of preload
- Fretting around the washer faces
- Cracking from repeated reuse
- Axial play in the retained gear, bearing or shaft

## 🛠️ Service Notes

- Lock washers are single-use: the spring or the lock is set by the first tightening, so fit a new one whenever the fastener is disturbed
- Refit in the same arrangement as the parts came off, with the washer bearing on a clean, flat, undamaged seat
- Where the washer is a tab or bent type, bend the tab firmly against a flat of the fastener after final tightening, and never bend the same tab back and forth twice
- Tighten the fastener to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine — a lock washer secures a correctly tightened fastener, it does not compensate for a slack one
