-   Line up the gear timing marks and check valve timing before turning the engine over, and never force it against resistance
-   Tighten bearing caps and drive gear fixings in the sequence and to the figures in the workshop manual for your engine
-   Prime the oil system and turn the engine through by hand for a full cycle before starting, then keep the first period of running gentle
