-   Cap every pipe and port as it is disconnected and fit the block clean and dry; anything that gets past this point goes straight on into the fuel system
-   Renew the sealing washers, O-rings or gaskets for each connection instead of reusing them, and check the sealing faces and threads in the block for scoring, corrosion or distortion
-   Check that any drillings, restrictors or non-return valves in the block are clear before it is fitted
-   Offer the pipes up square so nothing is pulled into place under strain, and tighten the unions to the figures in the workshop manual for your engine
-   Bleed the system by the procedure for your engine, then check every joint for leaks with the engine stopped and again with it running
