-   Push each end fully home over the stub so the clip lands behind the bead or in its groove, and fit new clips rather than reusing tired or distorted ones
-   Tighten clips evenly and only enough to seal — over-tightening cuts into the hose wall and starts the next leak
-   Support the assembly with its original clips and stand-offs, clear of the exhaust, belts and sharp edges, and check nothing rubs when the engine moves on its mounts
-   Bring the engine up to temperature, then recheck the joints and clip tightness once the hose has been hot and pressurised
