-   Blank off the open ports while the manifold is away so nothing can drop into a cylinder head
-   Tighten the fixings in the sequence and to the figures given in the workshop manual for your engine, and re-check for gas and water leaks once the engine has been up to temperature
-   Inspect the riser, elbow and exhaust hose at the same time; corrosion is rarely confined to one part of the system
