# 22821859 Starter Switch | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

## 🔧 Product Description

Genuine Volvo Penta starter switch weighing 0.118 kg, superseding part number 837437 and covering its 68 applications across MD, TMD, AQD, TD, D and TAMD series engines. Broad fitment makes it a practical stock item.

## ⚙️ Key Features

- Starter switch from the Starting System group
- 0.118 kg
- Supersedes part number 837437, catalogued earlier as a switch and as spare part references
- Covers the 68 applications recorded against the superseded number, across MD, TMD, AQD, TD, D and TAMD series engines
- Broad fitment across six engine series makes it a practical shelf item

## 🔌 Function

Makes and breaks the low-current circuit that energises the starter solenoid, so turning the key or pressing the button engages the starter without running the full starting current through the control.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

- Nothing happens on the key or button, with no click from the solenoid
- Starting works only if the key is jiggled or held at a particular point
- Hot or melted smell around the switch after repeated attempts
- Contacts burnt, pitted or welded when the switch is opened
- Terminals corroded or the switch body cracked so water has entered

## 🛠️ Service Notes

- Check the battery, main earth and solenoid feed before condemning the switch, since a flat battery gives the same silence
- Clean and protect the terminals on refitting, as damp is the usual cause of a switch that has failed early
