## 🔌 Function

Passes engine coolant through a bundle of tubes swept by raw seawater, dumping engine heat overboard while keeping the two circuits separate.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

-   Coolant level dropping with no external leak, or coolant appearing in the seawater discharge
-   Salt crusting or green staining at the end covers
-   Tube stack found blocked with weed, shell or impeller debris
-   Perforated tubes, wasted end plates or a spent zinc anode at strip-down

## 🛠️ Service Notes

-   Check the seawater side first - a blocked tube stack, a tired impeller or a fouled inlet strainer causes most of the overheating blamed on the exchanger
-   Renew the end cover gaskets and O-rings with the unit, and fit a fresh anode where one is used
-   Look for impeller vanes shed upstream and remove them before commissioning the new exchanger
