-   Tighten to the figure given in the workshop manual for your engine, using the correct washer and the specified tightening sequence where one applies
-   Renew any split pin, tab washer, locking wire or lock washer that goes with the nut, and bend or fit the locking device properly once tightened
-   On drive and underwater assemblies, keep dissimilar metals apart where the design intends it and refit any anti-corrosion or anti-seize treatment the manual specifies for that joint
