-   Clean the liner seats and the O-ring grooves in the block thoroughly and check them for corrosion pitting or fretting before any liner goes in — a poor seat is the usual cause of a repeat failure
-   Measure liner protrusion above the block face dry, without the O-rings fitted, taking readings at several points around each liner and comparing them with the figures in the workshop manual for your engine — and do not try to correct insufficient protrusion by stacking extra rings or shims under the liner flange
-   Keep each liner with its own bore position once measured, and fit the O-rings in the order and orientation specified, lubricated as the manual directs
-   Fit the liners with an appropriate press or drawing arrangement so they go in square, never by hammering
-   Protect the finished bores from rust and knocks until the pistons go in, and never run a new liner against worn or reused rings
