## 🔌 Function

The injector meters and atomises fuel into the combustion chamber according to the engine-control command.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

- Uneven idle or balance fault
- Excessive smoke
- Fuel dilution of engine oil
- High return flow or injector electrical fault

## 🛠️ Service Notes

- This is a unit injector, driven from the camshaft through the rocker gear rather than fed from a common rail - the unit injector adjustment must be reset to the workshop manual's procedure and figure for your engine as part of fitting, not treated as optional.
- The engine does not use one injector part number throughout: Volvo Penta lists more than one injector kit for this cylinder head, so check the engine designation and serial number before ordering.
- Renew the injector seals and inspect the injector sleeve in the head for corrosion, pitting or signs of leakage while the access is open - a failed sleeve lets coolant or fuel where neither belongs, and it is far cheaper to deal with now than after reassembly.
- Work clean and cap the fuel galleries; a unit injector is intolerant of debris introduced during fitting.
- Where the engine's control system requires the new injector's calibration code to be entered, do so with Volvo Penta diagnostic equipment before returning the engine to service.
