# 23767598 Lower Gear | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

## 🔧 Product Description

Genuine Volvo Penta Duoprop lower gear weighing 47.97 kg, listed for three applications and superseding part number 23475637. The Duoprop designation means it carries counter-rotating propeller shafts, so it is not interchangeable with a single-prop unit.

## 🚤 Compatibility

Typically suits:

- Volvo Penta 527
- Volvo Penta 577S
- Volvo Penta 627SV

## ⚙️ Key Features

- Duoprop lower gear, 47.967 kg
- Listed for three applications
- Supersedes 23475637
- Carries counter-rotating propeller shafts, so it is not interchangeable with a single-prop unit
- Marine Propulsion group

## 🔌 Function

Turns the drive through to the propeller shafts at the bottom of the drive, and in Duoprop form drives two counter-rotating propellers from the one gearset.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

- Whine or growl from the lower unit that changes with speed
- Vibration under way, or a shudder when the drive is loaded
- Water or emulsion in the drive oil
- Oil sheen on the water around the drive
- Pitted or chipped gear teeth and worn bearings found on strip-down

## 🛠️ Service Notes

- The Duoprop designation is not optional - a single-prop lower gear will not take these propellers
- Check the oil for water and the seals for damage before deciding how far the failure has gone
- At nearly 48 kg this needs proper lifting support during removal
