# 3594618 Starter Motor | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

## 🔧 Product Description

Genuine Volvo Penta starter motor from the Starting System group, weighing 8.401 kg. It consolidates two earlier numbers, superseding 3588493 and 3841363.

## ⚙️ Key Features

- 8.401 kg
- Supersedes 3588493 and 3841363
- Starting System group
- Complete motor with solenoid

## 🔌 Function

Turns the engine over on the starter ring gear fast enough for it to fire, then releases as the engine picks up its own speed.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

- A single click from the solenoid with no rotation
- Slow, laboured cranking with the batteries known to be good
- A harsh grinding or whirring as the pinion fails to engage cleanly
- Starter staying engaged after the engine has fired
- Hot smell or scorched paint on the starter body after cranking

## 🛠️ Service Notes

- Check the batteries, main cables and earth strap before condemning the starter - voltage drop across a corroded connection mimics a failed motor exactly
- Inspect the flywheel ring gear teeth while the starter is out; a chewed ring will destroy a new pinion
- Because two older numbers are consolidated here, check that the mounting flange and pinion match what came off
