## ⚙️ Key Features

- 13.789 kg
- 2 applications on TAD series engines
- Supersedes 17233221
- Starting System group

## 🔌 Function

Turns the engine over on its ring gear until it fires, drawing heavy current for a short period and then disengaging as the engine runs up.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

- Slow, laboured cranking, or a single click and nothing more
- Whirring with no engine rotation as the drive fails to engage
- Grinding or clattering at the flywheel on engagement
- Starter getting hot and smelling of burnt insulation
- Repeat starting faults that clear when the terminals are cleaned

## 🛠️ Service Notes

- Check the batteries, cables and earth path before condemning the starter - voltage drop on the heavy leads gives the same symptoms
- Inspect the flywheel ring gear teeth before fitting a new starter, and set any specified pinion clearance
- At nearly 14 kg this is a heavy unit; support it on the studs rather than letting it hang while the fasteners are started
