# 861969 Woodruff Key | Genuine Volvo Penta Part

## 🔧 Product Description

Genuine Volvo Penta woodruff key from the Engine group, weighing 0.002 kg and listed for 38 applications across the D and MD series. It supersedes part numbers 3812129 and 861981, catalogued earlier as a key and a shaft key, so older parts lists show the same item under two different descriptions.

## 🚤 Compatibility

- **Engine Family:** D, MD
- **HP Range:** 13-75 HP

## ⚙️ Key Features

- 0.002 kg
- Supersedes 3812129 and 861981
- Both earlier numbers were catalogued as a key and a shaft key
- 38 applications across the D and MD series

## 🔌 Function

Sits in a half-moon slot in the shaft and keys the hub to it, so drive is taken by the key rather than by friction on the taper or bore.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

- Hub or pulley found rotated on its shaft, with timing or alignment marks out of register
- Key sheared, rolled over or picked out of its slot in pieces
- Keyway in the shaft or hub hammered wide or bell-mouthed
- Rhythmic knock or a slipping drive under load

## 🛠️ Service Notes

- A sheared key is almost always a symptom of a loose hub - check the fixing torque and the taper contact before blaming the key
- Renew the key rather than reusing it, and inspect both keyways for hammering before assembly
