## 🔌 Function

Meters and atomises diesel into the combustion chamber at injection pressure and at the correct point in the cycle.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

- Rough idle, a knock or a misfire traced to one cylinder
- Black or white smoke and a smell of unburnt diesel
- Hard starting and a drop in power under load
- Fuel leaking back past the injector or weeping at the seat
- Nozzle found coked, dribbling or with a stuck needle on test

## 🛠️ Service Notes

- Where the installation uses a copper seat washer and sealing ring, renew both rather than refitting the old ones
- Have the set pop-tested together - one bad injector usually means the others are not far behind
- Check the delivery pipe and its cone seats for the same cylinder before condemning the injector
