Genuine Volvo Penta sacrificial zinc nut anode that screws onto the propeller shaft nut, listed for 25 mm shafts with an M16 thread. From the Marine Propulsion group, it weighs 0.318 kg and is listed for 82 applications across the AD, D, TMD, MS, HS and TAMD ranges. It is the smallest of the four metric-threaded shaft anodes: 873412 covers 30 mm on M20, 873413 covers 35 mm and 40 mm on M24, and 873415 covers 45 mm on M30. Corrodes in place of the shaft and running gear, giving up its own metal to the galvanic action that would otherwise attack them.

## ⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

-   Anode wasted down to well under half its original size
-   Chalky white deposit and a crumbling, flaking surface
-   Anode still full size but dull and coated, showing it has passivated and stopped working
-   Fresh pitting or corrosion appearing on the shaft, propeller or drive
-   Anode loose enough to spin or rattle on the shaft

## 🛠️ Service Notes

-   Volvo Penta now recommends aluminium anodes for salt and brackish water rather than zinc, and is gradually phasing most zinc anodes out, so check the current listing for your shaft before reordering zinc
-   Measure the shaft and check the nut thread, since diameter and thread are what separate the anodes listed together
-   Renew at around half consumed, fit to clean bare metal for good electrical contact, and never paint an anode
-   Match the thread as well as the shaft diameter - the range mixes imperial and metric threads
