Propspeed Propeller Coating
Propspeed Propeller Coating
Propspeed is a specialised foul-release coating applied to propellers, sterndrives, shafts and other underwater metal, designed to stop marine growth from attaching in the first place rather than simply poisoning it off like traditional antifoul. The result is a smoother running surface and running gear that's easier to keep clean between haul-outs.
What the Service Involves
Propspeed application starts with the vessel hauled out and the propeller, shaft, sterndrive leg and other underwater metal thoroughly cleaned and prepared. Any existing coating, corrosion or growth is removed and the metal surface is prepared so the coating bonds properly, since surface preparation is what determines how well the coating performs. We follow the same preparation approach on hulls for our hull sealing and painting work. The coating is then applied in layers across the propeller and running gear.
Why It's Worth Doing
- Reduces marine growth and calcium build-up on propellers and running gear
- Helps maintain performance and fuel efficiency by keeping running gear cleaner
- Provides a level of protection against galvanic corrosion on coated metal
- Makes underwater metal easier to clean at each haul-out
Which Vessels Suit It
Propspeed suits any propeller-driven vessel, from outboards and sterndrives through to shaft-drive inboards, and is commonly applied alongside a standard antifoul job while the boat is already out of the water.
Where We Work
Application is carried out with the vessel hauled out at Wallaroo Marina, typically at the same time as antifoul work.
Looking After the Coating
Once applied, a Propspeed coating benefits from a gentle wipe-down at each haul-out rather than aggressive scrubbing, which helps the coating keep doing its job. If you're already booking antifoul or other haul-out work with us, adding Propspeed to that routine is straightforward.
