🔧 Product Description
Genuine Used Evinrude Johnson Magneto Armature Plate with Coils, Points and Condensers - Part Numbers: 0580867, 0584477, 0581419 and 0580148
A genuine pre-owned OMC, Evinrude and Johnson breaker-point magneto assembly for selected vintage outboards.
The assembly is based around armature plate 0580867 and may include ignition coils 0584477, condensers 0581419 and breaker-point sets 0580148, as shown in the product photographs or listing.
These components form the mechanically triggered magneto ignition system located beneath the flywheel. The rotating flywheel magnets induce voltage in the coils, while the breaker points and condensers control ignition timing and spark discharge.

🚤 Compatibility
Commonly used on:
• Vintage Evinrude and Johnson breaker-point magneto systems
• Two-cylinder 40HP outboards
• Manual-start and electric-start ignition assemblies
• Mechanical and electric-shift 40HP engine families
Verified example applications include:
• Selected 1960 and 1961 Johnson 40HP models using coil 0584477
• Selected 1964 Evinrude 40HP models using coil 0584477
• Selected 1969 Johnson 40HP models using coil 0584477
• Selected 1970 Johnson and Evinrude 40HP models using armature plate 0580867
• Selected 1971 Johnson and Evinrude 40HP models using armature plate 0580867 and coil 0584477
Important fitment note:
• The individual coil, points and condenser numbers were used on additional engine families, but the complete assembled plate must be matched to the original engine diagram.
• Confirm armature plate 0580867 rather than selecting the assembly from the coil number alone.
• Check the number of coils, points, condensers and wiring terminals against the original magneto.
• Flywheel, wiring harness, spark-plug leads and mounting hardware are included only when shown or stated.
• Used ignition components should be electrically tested before installation.
🔌 Function
The armature plate supports the ignition coils, breaker points and condensers beneath the flywheel.
As the crankshaft rotates, the flywheel magnets induce electrical energy in the coils. The breaker points open at the specified crankshaft position, interrupting current flow and creating the high voltage required at the spark plugs.
The condensers reduce arcing across the breaker contacts and help the magnetic field collapse rapidly for a stronger spark.
Common signs of ignition-system failure:
• No spark on one or both cylinders
• Weak or intermittent spark
• Difficult starting
• Engine misfires under load
• Engine runs on only one cylinder
• Points are burnt, pitted or contaminated
• Condenser causes heavy arcing at the points
• Coil insulation is cracked or swollen
• Spark becomes weak when the engine is warm
• Armature plate binds instead of rotating freely
• Damaged wires or corroded terminals
• Incorrect ignition timing
Recommended checks before installation:
• Test each coil's primary and secondary windings
• Inspect coil insulation for cracking
• Test condensers for leakage and capacitance
• Inspect and correctly gap the breaker points
• Clean the point contacts without leaving abrasive residue
• Inspect all wires and terminals
• Check the armature plate for free rotational movement
• Lubricate the breaker cam only as specified
• Check the flywheel key and magnet condition
• Set ignition timing and synchronisation to factory specification
• Verify strong spark on all cylinders before operating the engine under load
📦 Condition
• Genuine OMC, Evinrude or Johnson used assembly
• Pre-owned electrical and mechanical components
• Cosmetic wear, marks, grease, oxidation and surface corrosion may be present
• Electrical components should be tested before installation
• Included coils, points, condensers and hardware are limited to those shown or described
• Supplied in protective or equivalent packaging
