A genuine BRP optical ignition sensor, commonly referred to as the OIS optical sensor or optical eye, for selected Evinrude and Johnson 60-degree V4 and V6 two-stroke outboards.

The sensor mounts beneath the flywheel as part of the timer-base and optical-ignition system. It reads slots in the rotating encoder wheel and supplies the power pack or engine-control system with crankshaft-position and ignition-timing information. The optical sensor monitors the rotating encoder wheel and sends ignition-position information to the power pack or engine-management system. This allows the system to trigger ignition at the correct crankshaft position.
