Controls the oil allowed down the valve stem into the port, keeping the guide lubricated without letting oil into the combustion chamber.

  • Puff of blue smoke on start-up or after idling
  • Oil consumption rising with no visible leak
  • Oily deposits on one valve or spark plug
  • Seal hardened, split or missing from the stem
  • Smoke on the overrun as the engine comes off load

🛠️ Service Notes

  • 876577 also appears against head gasket 3853511 and gasket 3853513, so do not order from the old number alone
  • Check the guide 3853515 for stem rock before fitting new seals - a new seal in a worn guide will smoke again
  • Renew all the seals on a head at once, not just the one that smoked
