- Wear flats or scoring where the arms run
- Oil feed hole blocked or the shaft blued from heat

- Check the rocker arm bores and the oil feed at the same time, as the shaft rarely wears alone
- Prime the shaft with oil on assembly and reset valve clearances afterwards
