• Oil film or sheen in the water around the tunnel
• Emulsified or milky oil when drained
• Water in the housing or in the motor space
• Rust staining on the shaft where the seal runs
• Seal lips hardened, split or turned out on strip-down

🛠️ Service Notes

• Renew the whole kit rather than a single seal, and check the shaft for a wear groove where the old lip ran
• A failed seal is the usual cause of bearing damage, so inspect the bearings and have 41100775 or 41100839 to hand
• Fit seals dry-lipped but lightly greased on the outer face, and press them in square
