Genuine MerCruiser Crankshaft-Mounted Engine Coupler - Part Number: 76850A2

A genuine used round engine coupler for older GM-powered MerCruiser sterndrive engines using a two-piece rear crankshaft seal.

Unlike later triangular flywheel-mounted couplers, 76850A2 mounts directly to the crankshaft studs. It transfers engine torque to the sterndrive input shaft through its internally splined, rubber-isolated centre hub.

🔌 Function

The coupler transfers crankshaft rotation to the sterndrive input shaft. Its bonded rubber section absorbs torsional vibration and shock generated during acceleration, deceleration and gear engagement.

Common signs of failure:

• Engine runs but the sterndrive does not turn

• Burning-rubber smell near the flywheel housing

• Rubber or metallic debris around the coupler

• Splines are stripped or heavily worn

• Coupler hub spins inside the rubber section

• Knocking or vibration from the rear of the engine
