🔧 Product Description

Genuine Used Evinrude Johnson Timer Retainer and Link Assembly - Part Number: 0395883

A genuine pre-owned OMC, Evinrude and Johnson ignition-timing retainer and linkage assembly for selected small twin-cylinder outboards.

OEM catalogues describe 0395883 as a retainer or retainer-and-link assembly rather than a complete electrical timer base. The assembly supports the ignition timing plate and links its rotational movement to the throttle-control system.

This allows spark timing to advance and retard as the operator changes engine speed.

⚙️ Key Features

• Genuine OMC, Evinrude and Johnson used assembly

• Correct OEM part number 0395883

• Retainer and ignition-timing link assembly

• Used with the small-outboard timer or magneto plate

• Connects ignition timing movement with the throttle system

• Suitable for selected 4.5HP to 8HP outboards

🔄 Supersession & Cross Reference

OEM Supersession Chain:

• 0395883 → Replaces 0392534

• 0392534 → Related earlier retainer and link assembly

• 0395883 also replaces earlier reference 0390238 in applicable diagrams

Aftermarket / Verified Equivalents:

• No verified new aftermarket complete equivalent

• Genuine used or new-old-stock assemblies are commonly used

• Later related retainer-and-cam assemblies may use different numbers and must not be substituted without checking the engine diagram

🚤 Compatibility

Commonly used on:

• Evinrude and Johnson small twin-cylinder outboards

• Magneto and timer-base assemblies

• Tiller-steer outboards

• Throttle-controlled ignition-advance systems

Typically suits selected:

• 4.5HP outboards

• 5HP outboards

• 6HP outboards

• 7.5HP outboards

• 8HP outboards

Verified example applications include:

• 1980 Johnson 4.5HP and 7.5HP models

• 1981 Evinrude and Johnson 4.5HP models

• 1982 Evinrude 7.5HP models

• 1982 Johnson 4.5HP models

• 1983 Johnson 7.5HP models

• 1985 Johnson 8HP models

• Related early-to-late-1980s 4.5HP through 8HP ignition-linkage assemblies

Important fitment note:

• The exact retainer, cam and link combination changed during production.

• Confirm 0395883 or an explicitly superseded number in the engine's magneto diagram.

• Compare the link length, pivot positions and cam profile with the original.

• The electrical timer-base sensor, throttle cam and retaining hardware may be separate components.

• Included components are limited to those shown or described.

🔌 Function

The retainer supports the timer or magneto plate while allowing it to rotate through the required timing range.

The attached link transfers throttle movement to the timing plate so spark advance increases progressively as engine speed rises.

Common signs of wear or damage:

• Excessive movement in the timer plate

• Ignition timing changes erratically

• Engine hesitates during acceleration

• Throttle opens without corresponding spark advance

• Linkage binds or does not return to idle

• Retainer is cracked, worn or distorted

• Pivot holes are enlarged

• Link rod is bent or loose

• Engine cannot achieve full timing advance

Recommended checks before installation:

• Compare every pivot and mounting point with the original assembly

• Inspect the retainer for cracks and wear

• Check the link for bending or elongated holes

• Inspect the timer-base bearing surface

• Check the throttle cam and roller condition

• Confirm free movement from idle to full advance

• Perform the factory throttle-and-timing synchronisation procedure

📦 Condition

• Genuine OMC, Evinrude or Johnson used part

• Pre-owned assembly

• Cosmetic wear, marks, grease residue and light corrosion may be present

• Inspect all pivots and bearing surfaces before installation

• Included components are limited to those shown or described

• Supplied in protective or equivalent packaging
