Part number 0583376 supersedes earlier assembly 0583127. Number 582077 is commonly found as a casting, internal or identification number on compatible assemblies and should be checked alongside the complete service part number.


This timer base is associated with the earlier 85HP to 140HP V4 cross-flow ignition family.

🔌 Function


The timer base generates cylinder-position signals for the power pack and rotates to control spark advance.


Correct operation allows stable idle timing, progressive advance during acceleration and the specified maximum timing at wide-open throttle.


Common signs of failure:


• One or more cylinders lose spark

• Engine misfires under acceleration

• Spark becomes intermittent when warm

• Engine backfires during starting

• Timing varies unexpectedly

• Engine will not reach rated rpm

• Timer base does not rotate smoothly

• Wiring insulation is brittle or cracked

• Trigger output is below specification

• Measure trigger resistance and peak voltage

• Inspect all plugs and terminals
