It also provides the timing information required by the Quick Start system and rotates with the spark-advance linkage as the throttle is opened.
Common signs of failure:
• No spark on one or more cylinders
• Intermittent spark loss
• Quick Start timing does not operate correctly
• Engine remains excessively advanced after warm-up
• S.L.O.W.-related ignition symptoms
• Misfire during acceleration
• Engine will not reach rated rpm
• Trigger resistance or output is outside specification
• Damaged wires or connector terminals
Recommended checks before installation:
• Confirm the 0583508 / 0763782 interchange
• Compare connector pin counts and wire colours
• Test trigger resistance and output
• Check the power pack and temperature-sensor circuits
• Inspect the timer-base bearing and linkage
• Set idle timing and maximum timing after installation
📦 Condition
• Genuine BRP, OMC, Evinrude or Johnson used part
• Pre-owned electrical component
• Cosmetic marks, wire ageing and light oxidation may be present
• Electrical testing before installation is strongly recommended
