Genuine BRP Evinrude Johnson Wedge-Key Water Pump Impeller - Part Numbers: 0777214 and 0396809


A genuine BRP flexible water-pump impeller for selected 35HP, 40HP, 45HP, 48HP, 50HP and 55HP Evinrude and Johnson two-stroke outboards.


This impeller uses a wedge-style drive key and replaces original impeller number 0396809 / 396809.


It must not be confused with earlier pin-key impeller 0777129.

Important fitment note:


• Confirm the wedge-style key before ordering.

• Earlier engines may use pin-key impeller 0777129.

• Later 40HP-50HP engines commonly use 0432941 or 0765350.

• Do not alter the impeller bore or substitute an incorrect key.


🔌 Function


The impeller circulates raw cooling water from the lower unit to the engine.


Common signs of wear:


• Weak cooling-water stream

• Engine overheats

• Vanes become permanently bent

• Rubber cracks around the hub

• Wedge key wears or slips

• Housing liner becomes scored

• Pump fails to prime

• Broken rubber enters cooling passages


Installation considerations:


• Confirm the correct key type

• Inspect the driveshaft keyway

• Check housing, insert cup and plate

• Replace the wedge key if damaged

• Lubricate the impeller before assembly

• Rotate the driveshaft in its normal direction

• Ensure all vanes fold correctly

• Test cooling-water delivery after installation
