🔧 Product Description

Dunbier Knott Jockey-Wheel Top-Hat Gear Retaining Plate - Part Number: 1008

A replacement top-hat retaining plate used within compatible Knott jockey-wheel gear assemblies. The formed plate locates and retains the internal bevel gear components around the winding shaft, helping maintain correct gear mesh and axial position.

⚙️ Key Features

• Replacement internal Knott jockey-wheel gearbox component

• Formed top-hat profile supports gear alignment

• Retains internal winding-gear components

• Useful when rebuilding a serviceable jockey-wheel body

• Allows a damaged retaining plate to be replaced without changing the complete jockey wheel

📏 Specifications

• Component type: Internal gear retaining plate

• Application: Selected Knott side-wind jockey-wheel gearboxes

• Exact diameter, depth and shaft opening must match the removed plate

🔄 Cross Reference & Related Parts

• Dunbier: 1008

• Related Knott gear-and-pin kit: Dunbier 1280

• Related handle gear: Dunbier 1301

• Related bottom gear: Dunbier 1302

• Knott jockey wheels: Dunbier 1293 and 1294 where the installed gearbox matches

🚤 Trailer Compatibility & Application

• Use only in the Knott jockey-wheel gearbox specified by the original component dimensions

• Not a universal plate for AL-KO, Fulton or generic top-wind jockey wheels

• Check the shaft, gears, roll pins and housing before deciding to replace the plate alone

🔌 Function

Retains the internal bevel gears in their correct operating position so handle rotation is transferred smoothly to the lifting screw.

Common signs of wear or replacement:

• Plate is cracked, distorted or heavily corroded

• Gear assembly moves axially inside the gearbox

• Jockey-wheel handle skips under load

• Metal fragments or excessive play are present inside the top housing

• Retaining plate no longer seats firmly in the gearbox

🛠️ Installation & Safety

• Unload and safely support the trailer before dismantling the jockey wheel

• Record gear and washer orientation during disassembly

• Clean and inspect the screw, shaft and gear teeth before reassembly

• Lubricate the internal gearing with a suitable water-resistant grease

• Replace damaged gears and retaining pins rather than fitting the plate to a worn assembly

📦 Condition

• Brand new Dunbier Marine Products trailer component

• Supplied as one Knott top-hat gear retaining plate

• Supplied in original or equivalent packaging
