🔧 Product Description

Genuine Volvo Penta hexagon screw in the 190 mm length, used as a threaded fastener on the TD, TMD, TAMD and TAD 70/120/121/122 series marine and industrial diesel engines. The L=190mm length is what sets this screw apart from otherwise identically named hexagon screws, so confirm the required length before ordering. Net weight is approximately 0.10 kg.

🚤 Compatibility

  • Engine Family: TMD, TD, MD, TAMD, D, TAD
  • Year Range: Approximately 1960s-1990s, dependent on engine model

⚙️ Key Features

  • OEM Volvo Penta part number 102040
  • Length: L=190mm
  • Hexagon head screw for engine assembly fastening
  • Net weight approximately 0.0998 kg
  • Fits TD70/MD70/D70, TMD120/TAMD120, TMD121/TAD121/TD121 and TAMD122 series engines
  • Engine type: Volvo Penta large-displacement inline six-cylinder diesel
  • System type: Induction and exhaust manifold fastening
  • Quantity varies by assembly, most commonly one

🔌 Function

Acts as a threaded clamping fastener that secures engine components together at the specified torque. The 190 mm length allows it to pass through deeper component stacks or thicker mounting flanges than shorter screws of the same style.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Rounded, damaged or seized hexagon head preventing correct tool engagement
  • Stretched or thinned shank after over-torquing, causing loss of clamping force
  • Damaged, stripped or galled threads that will not hold torque
  • Corrosion, pitting or seizing in the threads from salt water exposure
  • Repeated loosening of the joint or fluid weeping at the clamped face

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check the length, thread and strength grade of the replacement against the screw you removed — engine fasteners are chosen for a specific clamp load, and a longer or softer screw is not a substitute
  • Clean the threads in the component and make sure the mating faces are clean and flat before assembly; dirt, paint or old sealant in a joint feels like tightness and leaves the joint loose
  • Tighten to the torque figure and the tightening sequence given in the workshop manual for your engine, working up progressively rather than pulling each screw down in one go
  • Use thread locking or sealing compound only where the manual calls for it, and renew the locking washer, tab washer or nut that works with the screw
  • Renew rather than reuse screws that are corroded, thread-damaged or visibly stretched, and any screw the manual tightens by torque-plus-angle
