A rubber shaft seal.
A rotary shaft seal of this type sits in a housing bore with its lip running directly on a turning shaft. The lip holds oil or grease in and keeps water, salt and grit out — the job it has to do in marine gearcases, pumps, trailer hubs and drive shafts, where a failed seal means a flooded housing rather than a drip on the driveway.
Size is what matters when you order one: the inside diameter has to match the shaft, the outside diameter has to match the housing bore, and the width has to match the recess it drops into. Those figures are listed below.
